Real Estate Video Made Simple

By NikNik | August 26, 2008

Don’t let time and money stand in the way of utilizing video in your real estate business. Especially when there is simple video solution just waiting for you…and it’s called The Flip.  It’s as easy as it sounds…well,  as easy as flipping a light switch on and off. Seriously!

The Flip, created by Pure Digital Technologies, is the latest innovation in compact video. The newest addition to the Flip product suite is The Mino. The Flip Mino delivers the perfect combination of portability, affordability, and high quality video. Weighing in at about 3 ounces, The Mino will fit in your purse or pants pocket easily. Never miss the perfect video moment again! Here are a few ways to implement video in your real estate business:

Once you have created your video masterpiece, The Flip software allows you to easily upload your video to YouTube and AOL Video, making sharing a snap!  Be sure to add to your video to your own blog or Website, along with any single property sites you have for your listings.

The Mino runs $179 and can be found at these locations or online.  It comes with built-in software and signature USB “flip-out” arm! I also suggest purchasing The Flip Tripod, but check out all the accessories. Here is a quick rundown of The Mino features:

Sarah- Thanks for the support…I know how you love your Mino! And you make some rockin’ videos with that bad boy!

Jake- Uploading with the Mino (or any Flip device) is so easy my four year old can do it…and did! Just use the Flip Out USB Arm on the top of the Mino (on the side for Ultra models). Plug directly into your USB drive, the Flip software is immediately launched. You can make edits, add music, etc. Then select the email button to send to a friend or upload straight away to YouTube or AOL Video. The movie you create is an AVI file, so really you have plenty of options when it comes to syndication (Vimeo, Viddler, etc).

The flip is a great camera for CERTAIN things. Testimonials, video blogging, etc. I also use it when I have out of town clients who want to preview properties. However, the quality is less than what you’d expect from a cell phone camera, and for doing house tours that are on public sites, I would never use this camera. My attempts (and all that I see on the web) are embarrassingly amateur and unprofessional, and I don’t think that’s the image we want to project for our sellers or to buyers.

It’s a great product for certain things - but if you’re going to do real video tours or community tours, this will make you look like a rank amateur 12 year old with daddy’s camera. “Just because you CAN do something doesn’t mean you SHOULD”.

I agree that if you have access to or money in your budget, then a professionally produced neighborhood, community or bio video would be well worth it (plus the time and again usage factor).

I also agree that some people were not meant to own video cameras…just like some people can’t draw a horse to save their life.

However, if you have REALLY tried the Flip then you would not be balking at the quality or comparing it to a cell phone camera. BTW-Can you name a cell phone with digital video…that uploads to YouTube?

Have you tried using a Tripod? What about selecting an area with great lighting? Did you know that the Flip has 2x zoom? I haven’t seen a cellphone that attaches to a tripod that comes with zoom.

Perhaps your skill set requires assistance to make the most of your video. And the goal HERE is to encourage those that WANT to try video some help…so give us a break.

First figure out exactly why one wish to invest in Real Estate. If one want to invest for the family, first check out the formalities and papers of the land such as the road connectivity, water, electricity and one should also find out how close the estate is to shops, schools, etc. Take a walk through the interiors of the house which one are thinking of investing in to ensure that there are no repairs of any fault which are necessary. If one want to invest in property for the reason of selling it in the future, it is important that you do quite a bit of research on the estate concerned. Calculate how much appreciation the land is likely to go through and also see which areas will bring one the most amount of profit. All this is very necessary to ensure that one do not buy property which will not be in demand later on.

Ease of use is TOTALLY the key with this new camera. As I have heard comments from FLIP users, I am close to making a run to my local Best Buy to purchase. I have a high tech HD video camera that is ridiculous to operate and download video.

The flip will work for certain situations such as previewing. But you don’t want to use low quality video on your site or listings. Use high quality images and you’ll attract more buyers.

I’d get something with more than 2X zoon and a wider lens for real estate and know lighting is a premium inside someplaces in winter and without power or adequate internal lighting. Light sensitivity of the FLIP leaves something to be desired so I would pony up and spend $500 to $1200 to do the job right coupled with software to edit the video and life narrated audio that is delivered one on one and not read at the premises, complete with the bird’s twirping, fireplace crackling, acoustics of the property not the dub over sound booth.

One thing that many realtors tend to overlook. CAMERAS don’t take good pictures - PEOPLE do. If you had access to Shakespeare’s pen, it will NOT make you a great writer - or even a good one!

You can own the best of cameras and shoot crap. You can have the cheapest camera and shoot great photos.

The reality is.. MOST REALTORS CAN’T TAKE PICTURES. The camera isn’t the issue people… it’s the person using it.

Either LEARN to take compelling photographs or video, or hire someone who can do it right. Your REPUTATION is at stake. I am embarrassed when I see the ridiculously poor job done by real estate agents who are marketing properties. It’s such an embarrassment to the agent AND the industry.

Better yet, learn to recognize when you can’t take photos! I’ve spoken to many realtors who THINK they take ‘great’ pictures… and I just am dumbfounded. Not sure what planet they’re on…. Be honest with yourself and elevate your profession to a PROFESSIONAL level.
