new-mouse.jpgEarth Day is a reminder to not only think, but act more environmentally sustainable.  This Earth Day, I challenge to you to examine your real estate marketing methods.  Can you make just one simple adjustment to market more sustainably? With so many agents turning to the Internet to market themselves and their real estate businesses it’s not such a difficult request. I have compiled a list of eco-friendly marketing ideas that can be initiated any time of year…not just for Earth Day! Check them out and let me know how you plan to become a more earth conscious real estate professional!

(1) Start a real estate blog. Market your expertise, highlight listings, and develop a community online.

(2) Send eNewsletters to your sphere with market updates, community and neighborhood info, etc.

(3) Use recycled paper for print marketing.

(4) Avoid printing large quantities of collateral that goes out of date frequently.

(5) Laminate open house signs (remove shoes, turn off lights, etc.) so they can be reused time and again.

(6) Send thank-yous via email or flash animated eCards.

(7) Utilize social networks to share your message, brand, blog articles, transparency, etc. Try any or all of the following: ActiveRain, RealTown, Zolve, Inman, Facebook, Trulia Voices, LinkedIn, Twitter, FriendFeed, YouTube, MyBlogLog, etc.

(8) Become a paperless mobile agent with VREO Dashboard. Consider the referrals you can potentially obtain by providing great paperless service to your environmentally conscious clients.

(9) Reuse paper in your office. Consider adding a recycle bin next to your office printer and reuse paper for your own use (comps, prospecting, etc.).

(10) Refill ink cartridges. Just bring them to your local office supply store and they will refill them for you!

(11)  Become an EcoBroker. Obtain a special this special designation and educate others.

(12) Marketing your listings online with MyMarketWare! Create a Website dedicated to your listing and syndicate to Trulia, Google, Yahoo, Propsmart, Oodle, Craiglist and more!

Nik… Right up my alley. I think this is the direction Real Estate will take over the next few years. The use of technology especially presented at (My Tech Opinion) for Real Estate Professionals will help agents utilize technology and crate a real estate experience with a conservation of resources.

for more GREEN practices, I believe we should me moving to all digital signatures…especially for the mortgage industry. An app is 34 pages long! sometimes I have to get 3 signed per file!

I like the caravan…but also I am supposed to be going to a reverse caravan - all the agents in a community are doing a lunch and a walking tour! I hope it isn’t too hot!

David- I rarely see agents sporting a table pc and RE dashboard…the technology is here…but adoption is going to take awhile.

Jonathon & Peter- Thanks for the love…many of these ideas are in place at my parents’ brokerage. But starting with one or 2 is a good goal to have. Gotta start somewhere!

    Hey everyone,

I saw the article about going green and being more eco friendly which is great. I love the fact that the planet is in trouble and that we must act now in order to help out. I think with global warming creeping up on us, I think it is very important that we become more aware of trying to lower our carbon emissions, and try and do right by the planet. I think we can all do our little bit extra to try and help! At home I always shut the computer down rather than putting it to sleep, and always turn off electrics rather than leave them on stand by. These tips may seem small, but if everyone pulled together then I think we could really make a difference to the world. Another hint I have is that I now use e-Cards rather than buying paper cards. Not only are you saving money if you choose a free site, but more importantly, you are helping the environment by saving paper, and therefore less trees need to be chopped down! I have done my research and finally found the best free Environmentally Friendly e-Card site. It is really easy to use, which is great if like me you are not very good with computers! I really like this particular site as there is just so much choice. I know e-Cards are not for everyone but think of the environment it really is a great way to help out and do your bit! Kind Regards, Nic
